Scottish Widows – Auto Enrolment Planning tool

This tool lets an IFA produce an MS Project style plan for an Corporate Pension Scheme operator and also illustrates the cost in advisor charges which each stage will incur.

I managed every aspect of this project from initial concept to final scope, estimate & wireframe, UX/UI design and application architecture. I built the tool template html with Bootstrap 3 and the functionality is bespoke Javascript, with the usual help from jQuery and some handy polyfills. The tool works on all desktop browser since MS IE8 and also plays well on mobile device.

THe application uses local storage to maintain any number of IFAs plans any of which can be edited or used to demo to prospective clients,

ABI – Pension Charges Calculator

I built this tool for the Association of British Insurers with JavaScript & HTML/CSS using Bootstrap & jQuery. Its HTML 5 responsive design makes sure the tool works well across all desktop browsers and mobiles devices. I helped take the brief through from initial scope to final delivery, involved in scope, wireframing and UX, but mainly I did everything related to the JavaScript programming, including translation of the engine from the Actuarial provided MS Excel document.

Read some news about how the industry has received this tool and welcomes the help it gives consumers in understanding the complex issues with Pension charges here: http://www.abi.org.uk/News/News-updates/2013/08/Pension-web-tool

Scottish Widows – Quick quote tool

I was lead developer on this responsive HTML tool for Scottish Widows. I did the scoping, estimating and architecture for the technology platform and wrote the required JavaScript, libraries and integrated .NET based JSON service.

The tool works comfortably across desktop, tablet and mobile. The tools front end is entirely JavaScript/CSS/HTML with a JSON web service to produce quotes on the server side. This keeps the clients’ data confidential. The tool works well across all target platforms and integrates well with the clients 3rd party suppliers for fulfillment of their email and call center activities. View the Quick Quote Tool here

Campers Scotland

I built the Rental management system and consumer web site for this rental and conversion company based in Falkirk, Scotland. The back office rental system is a bespoke build in PHP5 & MySQl and is also available as a consumer facing rental/hire booking system via integration with the WordPress based public facing website.

The main consumer site is available at http://www.campers-scotland.com. The public hire system is still in beta testing and I can give you working demo access to this and the back office system on request 😉

The back office rental systems has successfully managed the running of the hire business since 2010 and continues to support the growing business.

I developed the wordpress templates with integrated PHP based rental system to allow the companies personnel to keep their content current prices up to date without further development requirement.

Acer: Olympic Pavillion – London 2012

Interactive Sphere Display

Interactive Sphere Display

Working on Acer Computers Olympic Pavillion for London 2012, I was responsible for the delivery of a suite of Flex / Air applications running on a large range of Acer’s PC laptop, Desktop and Android Tablet hardware.

I lead the development (Flash Builder), management and recruiting for the project which was highly interactive, fun and delivered within a tight schedule.

There were several zones within the exhibition, featuring Multi-player games, interactive displays and kiosk apps. All visitors of the exhibit received an Acer ID card with a unique QR Code which personalised their journey through the exhibit and was required to start any of the software. This was all coordinated through SOAP based web services with user profiles, scores and Face capture for 3D avatar featuring across the User Experience at the exhibit and also on the post-exhibit web-site.

Game Challenge

Fast, Faster, Fastest

Main features of the software at the exhibition were a PufferSphere XL (a 3m Wide Spherical display) – allowing 12 people using wifi connected Android tablets as controllers and viewers to interact and explore on a large display surface. Users could discover games, videos and infomercials.

There was also a large floor projected game with up to 8 players controlling their 3D avatars around a running course via wifi connected Android tablets. THe games was an engaging and competitive ‘track and field’ scenario and was designed with fun and speed in mind.

Financial tools and websites

I have worked on numerous HTML or Flash based tools and sites for financial sector companies within Scotland. Clients include Scottish Widows, Standard Life, Aegon & Scottish Life.

I have typically handled the scoping, requirement capture, wireframing, build and deployment of both consumer facing and internal business tools for these major companies within Edinburgh.

The Standard Life – Pathfinder Tool help employers understand the impact of the Pension Reform Act on their payroll. The user interface is simple yet effective and allows the user to explore their options and helps them plan their actions as a result of reform. The tools is built in Javascript & HTML/CSS and works in all browsers back to IE6.

Standard Life - Voice of the customer

Standard Life – Voice of the customer

The Standard Life – Voice of the customer website was a platform for Standard Life to communicate with its consumer base, providing video journals from the Chief Executive and staff insights as well as forms and interactives to gather customer feedback and data on customer priorities.

The Scottish Widows  – Income Replacement Tool is a flash based tool which helps Financial advisers calculate income replacement ratios for a group of employees and identify key areas for focus using a certain indicators. The tool allows an advisor to describe multiple corporate schemes and upload and manage large memberships for which to compute results and determine a strategy.

Scottish Widows – My Money Works is a portal for corporate pension schemes which features a suit of tools to help employees understand and manage their company pension and financial affairs. The suite of tools was originally built in Flash, and has since evolved to include responsive HTML & Javascript tools, mobile apps and iPad presentations

BAE: Hawk Interactive

I built this Flash interactive kiosk app for use in BAE Systems Exhibitions during 2011. The application features extensive use of HD 1280 x 720 video for a full screen high quality presentation. The presentation allows the user to take an in-depth look at the capabilities and features of the Hawk training jet and see where it is deployed across the globe. The presentation was designed to run from a DVD and display on a large format HDMI style display.

All of the video assets, texts, graphics and settings within the presentation are able to be amended and updated via XML, so the presentation can be regularly upgraded and maintained without further need for publish or developer resource.

The client was extremely happy with the quality and functionality of the presentation which runs smoothly and quickly when viewed on a local machine. It performed well in the exhibition space.

You can view the full Hawk Interactive Demo here, but please be aware that this presentation is not optimised for internet use and therefore does not show any placeholders or notifications when large resources are being downloaded for playback.

Reckitt Benckiser: Airwick website

I developed this feature rich flash site for Reckitt Benckiser Airwick© brand. The site offers informative and fun interaction with Airwick’s well known product line, introduced by its familiar creature characters.

Offering product configurations and search tools – the site accomplishes database features using only flat xml files and flash.

Available as both flash and “AA” accessible HTML the site was developed to be launched in several regions and multiple languages. I also designed and produced the CMS system to publish all necessary XML, HTML and CSS and provided extensive support documents and guides for update and deployment by non technical personnel.

The site was deployed across most of Reckitt Benckiser’s global market.

Peugeot: www and 1007 / 207 launch

I Developed various flash websites, modules and tools for the Peugeot UK site during 2005/6. Including promotional sites for model launches, and Flash/XML based CMS modules for the Peugeot online showroom and financial services. The typical site for product specific launches are rich in interactivity and use of video, these sites are now inactive and, due to the extensive use of streamed video using Akamai Services, the high number of users and quantity of traffic, are unable to be currently viewed. Many of the modules for the financial services and showroom tools could still be seen on Peugeot’s site for several years.

Peugeot 207 .com site

The 207 launch site was an immersive flash site featuring many ways to explore, configure and learn about the 207. It featured a large amount of high quality video content and interactivity. I worked on several of the interactive modules for the site.

Diageo: Classic Malts

After successfully delivering on Diageo’s flagship Johnnie Walker brand. I then went on to deliver various flash websites and modules for Diageo’s other brands, including The Classic Malts, Bushmills, Cuervo and also created training and promotional materials for their Global sales staff and franchises. The flash work involved the development and delivery of sophisticated XML driven sites, where again I delivered CMS database and production tools to speed delivery and allow for easy regionalisation by other agencies and personnel. A good example being the multi region language website for their Whisky & Food promotion.

Whisky & food – promoting the appreciation of Whisky with recipes and suggestions for meals

I also produced a multi region/language interactive / educational CDs for their 300,000+ subscribers, and an an interactive training CD-Rom for the entire Global Diageo sales team. The Scotch Heritage CD was also released in several langauges and made available for web and deployed on Diageo’s intranet for staff training.

Diageo: Johnnie Walker

Johnnie Walker website

Johnnie Walker website

Developed the 2006 launch of Diageo’s flagship Johnnie Walker flash website. Working from existing site originally developed for the Korean market, my brief was to take the existing flash resource, extend and enhance the content, add new modules and convert to an XML driven dynamic site ready for regionalisation and roll-out across Diageo’s Global internet presence.

This involved working closely with Diageo’s IT to ensure integration with their CMS provided by Accenture, and liaise directly with the Global Marketing Manager to ensure the highest quality and timely delivery of the project. The delivery to the client included updated flash resource with support for XML regionalisation and configuration, CMS database and ASP publishing tools to enable rapid regionalisation, documentation and support for the main delivery team within Diageo.

Diesel: Collections and Diesel Denim 2002 – 2005

I was the Flash developer for Diesel’s seasonal campaigns for their fashion Collections and for the Diesel Denim range from 2002 through to 2005.

Creating the artistic and interactively rich flash based sites. I worked closely with the client and the team of art directors to deliver fun and exciting experiences to Diesel’s dedicated online community.

Diesel had over a million subscribers to their campaigns, and invested heavily in their online marketing communications, constantly trying to keep their fans enthused and up to date with their fashion collection and accessories.

The Diesel Denim campaign required a re-usable and easily re-skinnable interface which presented the entire available Male & Female Denim range. The flash and XML based solution I built for Diesel was successfully used for each seasonal campaign throughout 2002-2006.

My work won a standing ovation when it was presented to a meeting of European Diesel franchise operators and stakeholders, who had long wanted an online resource which showed the large variety of cuts and washes available in an easily accessible and comprehensive manner.

During my tenure as the lead Flash developer (EHS Brann / Euro 4D) I was responsible for many interactive websites, games and microsites for the famously indulgent Diesel Brand. I produced CD-Roms for in-store promotion and distribution to their extensive subscriber base.

I was lead programmer on all of Diesels campaigns during 2002 – 2005. Working closely with the digital design team, I was responsible for turning the often demanding briefs into functional reality, breaking down the tasks and programming requirements in a way which allowed a small production team to work in parallel to deliver the content rich, and highly interactive campaigns.

Mini: UK

I Developed various sections of the Mini UK site from 2002 to 2006. Producing games, microsites, modules and product customisation tools using Flash & XML.

Working within Mini’s strong brand identity and corporate guidelines I also successfully provided support for HTML and JavaScript integrating a substantial amounts of diverse content within their CMS systems and often to tight deadlines, closely linked to marketing campaigns and product launches.
